NERVE RELEASE AND DECOMPRESSION

Carpal tunnel syndrome affects the median nerve as it passes through a narrow tunnel in the wrist. When the surrounding tissues swell, they compress the nerve, leading to numbness or pain in the hand. Carpal tunnel release is a straightforward outpatient procedure where the surgeon carefully cuts the ligament over the tunnel, giving the nerve more space and reducing pressure. This is one of the most frequently performed hand surgeries, known for its high success rate and quick recovery.

The ulnar nerve passes behind the elbow through a tight channel called the cubital tunnel. Compression here can cause numbness in the ring and little fingers, as well as hand weakness. During cubital tunnel release, the surgeon frees the nerve from surrounding tissue or moves it to a less restrictive location. This helps prevent permanent damage and relieves symptoms that affect grip and dexterity.

This procedure targets compression of the ulnar nerve at the wrist, where it travels through Guyon’s canal. Compression in this area may mimic carpal tunnel symptoms or cause weakness in the hand muscles. Surgical release involves opening the canal to allow the nerve to move freely without pressure, reducing numbness and restoring fine motor control.
